ABOUT MEDICAL DERMATOLOGY
Our skin is the largest organ and a very complex part of our body.
It is continuously exposed to the environment, especially harmful UV rays but also heat, cold and chemicals. Our skin is also our largest immune organ.
There are vast numbers of disorders that can affect our skin.

ACNE
Acne is a very common skin condition affecting more than 80{a715dc82460ef316453535d8f5a5bb71203d64b0dd9e1da30c14866b8663dde1} of teenagers and many adults and children at some time in their life.
It can have a huge impact on the lives of young people. Highly effective treatments will lead to clear skin and more confidence.

ACNE SCARS
Permanent scarring following acne is often very distressing for patients.
We can treat acne scarring very effectively with profractionated laser or radiofrequency devices.
Our staff will discuss treatment options with you.

ALLERGIES AND TESTING
Often skin rashes occur as a result of allergies. It can be tricky to identify the triggering substances and allergens.
At Central Dermatology Clinic we provide allergy patch testing and offer IgE and RAST testing.

ROSACEA
Rosacea is a very common skin condition, particularly in people with fair skin and history of sun exposure. Does your face often look red? Do you blush easily? Do you have unsightly capillaries on your nose and face that you find yourself trying to hide with makeup?

EXCESSIVE SWEATING
Sweating is a normal function of our body but excessive sweating can be very embarrasing and unpleasant. Highly effective treatments are available for axillary hyperhidrosis, the medical term for abnormal sweating under the arms.

PSORIASIS
Psoriasis is a common skin condition characterised by formation of pink scaly plaques on different skin areas. Being highly visible it usually has a significant physical and emotional impact on affected individuals. Fortunately, the advances in the knowledge of the causes of psoriasis have enabled the development of new effective treatment options.

ECZEMA
Atopic dermatitis (also known as childhood eczema) is a chronic itchy skin disease. Although most common in childhood, adults can also be affected. The condition is most common in people with a personal or family history of other ‘atopic’ conditions including asthma and hay fever.
With the better understanding of our immune system more effective treatments are available.

VITILIGO
Vitiligo is a common skin condition causing white skin patches and white hair. It is caused by overactivity of the immune system for reasons that aren’t yet completely understood.
Patients are more likely to also show other signs of immune overactivity such as thyroid disease. Vitiligo is not a sign of dietary deficiency nor of allergies. Phototherapy is highly effective.

HAIR LOSS
There are many possible causes for hair loss including hormonal and aging effects as well as conditions of the immune system, certain medications and stress. Hair loss can greatly affect your confidence.
Dr Christina Sander has a special interest in hair loss, its causes and its treatment. There are several new treatment modalities available which actually work in bringing your hair back in most cases!

PAEDIATRIC SKIN CONDITIONS
Children are often affected by skin rashes and require special treatment. At Central Dermatology Clinic we provide a dedicated Paediatric dermatology service. Dr Sander will provide paediatric consultations and tailored treatments suitable for our young patients.

FEMALE SKIN CONDITIONS
Women are frequently affected by skin conditions affecting the genital area. These can be more difficult to diagnose and treat correctly. Dr Christina Sander has undertaken dedicated training for the treatment of vulval dermatoses in Oxford, UK, and offers specialised clinics for these conditions.

TREATMENT OPTIONS
At Central Dermatology Clinic we offer the full spectrum of modern Dermatology treatments. Ranging from tailored topical treatments to phototherapy, laser & light, tablet treatments and injectables (biologics) we will provide you with the best treatments available for your skin condition.

NARROWBAND UVB PHOTOTHERAPY
There are several forms of photo-therapy. Narrowband ultraviolet phototherapy or “light” therapy is well established as an effective and safe treatment for many inflammatory skin conditions, particularly those involving large areas of the body. At Central Dermatology Clinic we utilise this therapy for a variety of skin diseases, particularly common conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and vitiligo.

BIOLOGICS
These are a new class of treatment molecules designed to specifically block only a very small part of the immune system. Results are amazing. Usually, patients having suffered severe psoriasis most of their life have close to clear skin when they have regular biologic therapy.
